Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has once again spoken out about the influence of alcohol in the entertainment industry, particularly within Bollywood. In a recent Instagram video, the singer shared his views on how many Bollywood artists promote alcohol through advertisements, stating that he does not engage in such endorsements. Diljit made it clear that he doesn’t consume alcohol and doesn’t participate in alcohol-related advertisements, calling out Bollywood artists who do. “Main khud sharab nahi peete… Diljit Dosanjh advertisement nahi karta” (I don’t drink alcohol… Diljit Dosanjh doesn’t do advertisements), he remarked.
The Movement for a Dry India
Diljit took a strong stance, suggesting a pan-India movement to make all states “dry,” meaning they would officially ban the sale of alcohol. He promised that if this happened, he would stop singing songs about alcohol. “If all of India’s states declare themselves as dry states, then Diljit Dosanjh won’t ever sing songs on alcohol. I promise,” he declared. Diljit also pointed out the contradiction during the COVID-19 lockdown when alcohol shops remained open while other businesses closed. His call to action for a dry India is a bold stance that has garnered attention and sparked discussions about alcohol’s impact on society.
Diljit’s Support for Gujarat and Future Performances
Although Diljit is vocal about his disapproval of alcohol promotion, he also expressed his support for Gujarat’s stance as a dry state. He even shared his desire for Amritsar, his hometown, to follow suit. While expressing gratitude towards the Gujarat government for its dry state policy, Diljit also offered a unique solution for his concert performances: “Wherever I have my shows, announce a dry day for one day, and I won’t sing songs about alcohol.” This gesture shows Diljit’s commitment to aligning his career with his personal values. As part of his ongoing Dil-Luminati Tour, Diljit will be performing across India, including in cities like Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, with his next stop in Lucknow on November 22.
