Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Blocks ₹100 Crore Donation from Adani Group

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently rejected a ₹100 crore donation from Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani for the Young India Skill University project. The CM clarified that the decision was made to avoid unnecessary controversies and ensure that the Telangana government’s impartiality is maintained. Speaking at a press conference, Reddy emphasized, “The decision was taken since Adani’s announcement gave rise to unnecessary discussions that it may appear to favour the state government or the CM, if the donation was accepted.”

Focus on Transparency and Accountability

Revanth Reddy reiterated his government’s commitment to transparency, stating that no funds from Adani Group or any other organization have been accepted into the state’s accounts. He explained that a formal letter was sent by the state’s official, Jayesh Ranjan, to Adani Group, requesting them not to transfer the donation. The CM stated that the government’s image and credibility were paramount, and it was essential to avoid controversies that could undermine public trust.

Reddy also expressed satisfaction with the government’s success in obtaining Income Tax exemptions for donations to the university. However, he clarified that maintaining the integrity of the administration remains the top priority.

The Adani Group Controversy

The Adani Group has been at the center of political debates in India, with opposition parties, particularly the Congress, accusing the Modi government of favoring the conglomerate. Meanwhile, the BJP has highlighted Adani’s investments in states ruled by opposition parties. CM Revanth Reddy’s refusal of Adani’s donation adds another chapter to the ongoing tug-of-war over the group’s influence and affiliations.

This decision underscores Telangana’s commitment to maintaining its autonomy and avoiding potential political controversies while focusing on transparent governance.
