Indian Idol Season 12 winner and popular singer Pawandeep Rajan is currently battling for recovery after meeting with a serious road accident on May 5. The singer was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition and has undergone a six-hour-long surgery to address multiple fractures. His team has now confirmed that he remains in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and will soon undergo another operation to treat the rest of his injuries.
Tragic Accident on National Highway-9 Near Moradabad
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 am on National Highway-9, near Chaupala Chauraha overbridge in Gajraula, close to the Circle Officer’s office in Uttar Pradesh. Pawandeep’s SUV collided with a stationary canter truck that had broken down on the roadside. Along with Pawandeep, two other passengers – car driver Rahul Singh and fellow traveller Ajay Mehra – were also injured in the crash.
Local bystanders quickly came to their aid and the trio was first taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care. After initial treatment, Pawandeep was shifted to a specialized medical facility in Delhi-NCR, Fortis Hospital, for advanced care.
Pawandeep Rajan Undergoes Major Surgery for Multiple Fractures
In a detailed statement shared via Pawandeep Rajan’s official Instagram Stories, his team confirmed that he was in severe pain and unconscious for much of the day following the accident. After undergoing comprehensive medical diagnostics and evaluations, he was taken into surgery at around 7 PM on May 6.
“Yesterday was a very difficult and hard day for the family and all his well-wishers. Whole day he was struggling with severe pain and unconsciousness. However, after a whole lot of diagnosis and examinations, he was taken into the operation theatre around 7 pm and after 6 hours some of his major fractures have been operated successfully,” the statement read.
Currently in ICU, Second Surgery Expected Soon
The surgery addressed some of the major fractures, but due to the extent of his injuries, a second operation is scheduled after he gets some rest and recovers from the initial procedure. The statement added that Pawandeep is currently under observation in the Medical ICU and being closely monitored by specialists.
“Post 3-4 days rest, he will again be operated for the rest of the fractures and injuries.”

Fortis Hospital Confirms Stability But Calls for Caution
In a separate medical bulletin, Fortis Hospital, Noida, where Pawandeep is admitted, stated that he is stable and conscious but will undergo a series of sequential surgeries to fully recover.
“He has been admitted to the hospital under the care of our orthopaedics team. He is currently stable and conscious. He will be undergoing a series of sequential surgeries. Our clinical team is closely monitoring his condition and providing all necessary medical care.”
Pawandeep Was En Route to Catch a Flight to Ahmedabad
According to his team, Pawandeep was on his way to Delhi to catch a flight to Ahmedabad, where he was scheduled to perform at an event. The accident disrupted his travel plans and turned a normal journey into a nightmarish ordeal.
“Hi everyone, as you all are aware, Pawandeep Rajan met with a tragic road accident on 5th May early morning near Moradabad, UP, while he was on his way to Delhi to catch a flight to Ahmedabad for an event.”
