Puneet Khurana Reveals Reason for Suicide in Heartbreaking Video: “Tortured by Wife and In-Laws”
In a chilling turn of events, another tragic case of domestic strife leading to suicide has come to light. Puneet Khurana, the owner of the popular Woodbox Cafe in Delhi, ended his life amidst allegations of harassment by his estranged wife, Manika Pahwa, and her family. The 40-year-old left behind a 54-minute video, detailing his anguish and the events that led him to take such a drastic step.
Puneet Khurana’s Heartbreaking Suicide Video
In the video, Puneet appeared visibly distressed, dressed in a grey t-shirt with unkempt hair and a beard. He described being subjected to mental harassment by his wife and in-laws, despite their mutual agreement for a divorce. Puneet claimed they had set specific conditions during the divorce proceedings, but his wife’s family later increased their demands, asking for an additional ₹10 lakh, which he could not afford.
“I am about to commit suicide because I am being truly tortured by my in-laws and my wife. We already filed for a mutual divorce.” – Puneet Khurana
Struggling with financial pressure, Puneet shared that he had already borrowed significant amounts from his parents. Unable to meet the new demands, he expressed his helplessness in the video, saying:
“They are asking for another 10 lakh rupees, which I can’t pay off. I cannot ask my parents to further pay it. They have already paid enough because of me.”
Marital and Business Disputes
Puneet and Manika had tied the knot in 2016 and initially shared a blissful year together. They co-founded Woodbox Cafe, which quickly gained popularity. However, their marriage began to unravel after the first year. Family members of Puneet have accused Manika of harassment and claimed that the couple frequently argued, particularly about their co-owned business.
A CCTV recording that recently surfaced further corroborates the tension between the two. In the footage, Manika is seen threatening Puneet, claiming her life was ruined. She was reportedly overheard stating that she would reveal personal details to Puneet’s relatives.
A Systematic Pattern of Harassment
Puneet’s suicide has raised serious concerns about the mental torture men sometimes face in marital disputes. His family alleged that the pressure from his wife extended to their shared business, leaving Puneet emotionally and financially drained. He also left voice recordings along with his suicide note, which reportedly provide further evidence of harassment.
Reflection on the Laws Protecting Women
This tragic incident has sparked a broader debate about the misuse of laws intended to protect women. Puneet’s case is being viewed as an example of how such provisions can sometimes be exploited to extort money and emotionally manipulate men and their families.
The case underscores the urgent need for more balanced approaches in addressing domestic issues, ensuring that justice prevails without gender bias.
