A shocking case has emerged from Meghalaya where Sonam Raghuvanshi, wife of Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly murdered her husband during their honeymoon. Before the murder, a chilling phone call between Sonam and her mother-in-law has gone viral, leaving everyone stunned.
The Viral Call
In the now-circulating call recording, Sonam is heard speaking with her mother-in-law, who had called her on May 23, 2025, to check on her during the holy day of Gyaras (a day of fasting). Sonam picked up the call and, while panting, explained she was still observing her fast despite the challenges of traveling in the jungle. She said:
“Mera toh upvas hai na. Meko 2-3 baar boldia. Mei ghumne ke chakkar mei upvas thodi todungi. Ghor jungle hai. Khadi chadhai hai. Utarna aur chadhna khadai hai. Abhi jungle mei kaha kuch milega.”
Her mother-in-law responded by reminding her to eat Falhari snacks and suggested that Raja should carry dry fruits. Sonam, however, maintained that she would continue her fast, telling her mother-in-law they were out sightseeing near a waterfall. The call ended abruptly after Sonam promised to speak later, a call that never came.
The Murder of Raja Raghuvanshi
Tragically, Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, was found dead on June 2, 2025, at the bottom of a deep gorge near the Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya. Sonam and Raja had initially checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village after visiting the famous living root bridges. Their scooter was later found abandoned near a roadside café, raising immediate suspicion.
Authorities revealed that Sonam had orchestrated the murder, allegedly hiring killers to execute the crime. The criminals used a weapon that was reportedly procured specifically for the murder.
Key Evidence
Raja’s body was identified by a tattoo bearing his name. Among the evidence recovered at the scene were broken pieces of a mobile phone, a smartwatch, medicine strips, and a white shirt belonging to a woman. Raja’s wallet, gold jewelry, and phone were missing, raising concerns of possible robbery.
The search for Raja’s body was hampered by heavy rainfall in the Sohras region, which saw 500 mm of rain in just three days. Authorities utilized drones to assist in the recovery operation.
Family’s Demand for Justice
Raja’s brother has called for a strict Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, citing the lack of CCTV footage in the remote area. The case has shocked the entire community, especially given Sonam’s seemingly normal and affectionate tone with her mother-in-law during the now-viral call.
This tragic incident highlights the complex layers of betrayal and pretense that can accompany even the closest of relationships. Investigations continue as the family and the public seek justice for Raja Raghuvanshi.
