Swiggy Instamart Customer Exposes Underweight Delivery ‘Scam’: “Ordered 600g, Got Only 145g

In a shocking revelation, a Swiggy Instamart customer has accused the delivery platform of providing underweight vegetables, sparking outrage on social media. The user posted on Reddit, claiming that he received significantly less quantity than what was promised on the app — and it didn’t stop at just one item.

Customer Ordered 600g of Cauliflower, Received Only 145g

The controversy began when the customer ordered vegetables from Swiggy Instamart and decided to weigh them on a digital scale at home. To his surprise, the cauliflower that was listed as 400–600 grams on the Swiggy app weighed only 145 grams. Shocked by the massive difference, the user decided to check the rest of the items in the order.

What followed was even more concerning. He found that every single vegetable in his order was underweight. For example, he received only 170g of capsicum instead of the 250g he paid for, and 965g of potatoes instead of the 1kg he had ordered. In total, he claimed that after paying for 1.8 kg of vegetables, he received only 1.2 kg.

“Most of the Vegetables Were Underweight,” Claims User

In his Reddit post, the customer wrote,

“After seeing the cauliflower’s weight, I had to verify every vegetable. The majority of them were underweight. This doesn’t feel like an innocent mistake anymore.”

He accused Swiggy of deliberately shortchanging customers and called out the platform for running a scam by delivering less than what is advertised.

Swiggy’s Disappointing Response to Customer Complaint

After discovering the discrepancy, the user immediately reached out to Swiggy’s customer support and provided photo evidence of the vegetables on a digital weighing scale. However, Swiggy’s response only added fuel to the fire.

Despite the clear proof, Swiggy offered a mere ₹89 as compensation, which was far less than the ₹177 value of the underweight items. Even after escalation, Swiggy’s support team stood firm on offering only a partial refund. The customer described Swiggy’s customer service representatives as “shameless” and stated that neither the support staff nor the escalation team made any sincere effort to resolve the issue.

Eventually, the frustrated customer wrote,

“I mailed my bank to reverse credit the amount and also reported the issue to the government’s INGRAM consumer helpline.”

Customers Slam Swiggy for “Untrustworthy, Deceptive Tactics”

The viral Reddit post drew attention from hundreds of other users who echoed the same concerns. Many customers accused Swiggy of employing deceptive tactics on a large scale. According to them, these are not isolated incidents but a systemic issue.

One Redditor pointed out:

“It’s not about the money. It’s about how Swiggy keeps doing this. Every day they deliver thousands of orders. If even 50g is short in each, imagine how much money they’re saving. This is a scam!”

Another added:

“I also use a digital scale. I received underweight vegetables too. I accepted a 50% refund. But what about those who don’t have a scale at home? They’re being fooled daily.”

These reactions suggest a deepening distrust toward Swiggy Instamart, with users suspecting a pattern of consistent underweight deliveries that go unnoticed unless verified.

This Isn’t the First Time Swiggy Has Been Called Out

While this particular incident has gone viral, Swiggy has faced criticism multiple times in the past for customer service issues, packaging concerns, and delivery delays. However, this time, the focus is on a potentially large-scale consumer trust issue — the reliability of the product weight itself.

Customers are now calling for more transparency in Swiggy’s packaging and deliveries and are urging the company to display exact weights, use tamper-proof packing, and ensure quality checks before dispatching items.

Final Thoughts: Is This a Bigger Problem Than We Think?

This incident has triggered a much-needed conversation around e-commerce ethics and consumer rights. While companies like Swiggy have transformed convenience shopping, they are also being held to higher standards of accountability.

If what the Reddit user claims is true, this might just be the tip of the iceberg. With thousands of orders being delivered every day, even small underweight margins could amount to crores in profits at the cost of customer trust.

Swiggy has yet to officially respond to the claims. HT.com has reached out to the company and will update the report upon receiving a statement.
