In a major development, the United States has issued an urgent advisory for all its consulate personnel and citizens in Lahore, Pakistan. The advisory says they must either evacuate if possible or shelter in place due to rising tensions and security concerns in the city. This comes after reports of drone explosions, downed drones, and airspace violations around Lahore.
The US Consulate General in Lahore has asked all its staff to stay indoors and follow strict safety protocols. According to initial reports, authorities may be evacuating some areas near Lahore’s main airport as well. American citizens in conflict-affected areas have been told to leave if it is safe, or stay inside and wait for further updates.
The situation has worsened following India’s military action under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 civilians. On early Wednesday, India carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
India’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that during the night of May 7–8, Pakistan had tried to attack multiple military bases across northern and western India using drones and missiles. In a strong reply, the Indian Armed Forces struck several air defence radars and systems deep inside Pakistan.
A senior defence official said, “The Indian response has matched Pakistan’s actions in both domain and intensity. Air Defence systems in Lahore have been neutralised.”
Sources also say that India carried out targeted strikes on Thursday morning, hitting strategic enemy installations. Meanwhile, Pakistan has increased its unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) using mortars and heavy artillery in areas like Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
What is Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor is India’s latest military operation to strike back against terror networks operating from across the border. It reflects India’s changed posture of zero tolerance against terrorism, especially after civilian deaths in Kashmir.
This operation marks one of the most serious escalations in recent times and could lead to further instability in the region. Citizens on both sides of the border are being urged to stay alert.
US Stands Alert
The US Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan have assured that they will continue to send updates through their messaging system. The advisory reflects the seriousness of the current situation and growing global concern over the security environment in Pakistan
