Albinder Dhindsa, the CEO of Blinkit, has been a trailblazer in the Indian business sector. Known for his innovative approach to the grocery delivery space, Albinder co-founded Grofers in 2013 alongside Saurabh Kumar. The company, which later rebranded as Blinkit in December 2021, has revolutionized grocery delivery and currently operates in 26 cities across India. Here’s everything you need to know about this ace entrepreneur and his personal life with Akriti Chopra, Zomato’s ex-CPO and co-founder.

The Journey of Albinder Dhindsa

Born in Patiala, Punjab, Albinder Dhindsa pursued his bachelor’s degree from IIT Delhi and later earned an MBA from Columbia University. Before founding Grofers, Albinder worked in various reputed organizations, including URS Corporation, Cambridge Systematics, and UBS Investment Bank.

He also spent two years at Zomato, where he served as the Head of International Operations. This experience gave him an in-depth understanding of the Indian marketplace and set the stage for his entrepreneurial journey.

In 2013, Albinder co-founded Grofers, which transformed the grocery delivery landscape in India. By 2021, Grofers rebranded to Blinkit, emphasizing the fast-growing commerce space. Blinkit’s success led to its acquisition by Zomato in June 2022 for $568 million in an all-stock deal.

Blinkit’s Growth Under Albinder Dhindsa

Under Albinder’s leadership, Blinkit has seen consistent growth and expansion. Zomato has invested significant resources into Blinkit, with a total investment reaching ₹2,300 crores by June 2024. The company continues to make headlines for its innovative strategies and expansion plans, including launching services in major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

In January 2025, Albinder announced the launch of five ambulances in Gurugram, further diversifying Blinkit’s offerings.

Despite its achievements, Blinkit has faced criticism, with comedian Kunal Kamra accusing the company of financially exploiting employees. However, Albinder Dhindsa remains a prominent figure in the corporate world, steering Blinkit through both challenges and opportunities.

Albinder Dhindsa’s Personal Life

Albinder Dhindsa is married to Akriti Chopra, a former co-founder and ex-CPO of Zomato. Akriti joined Zomato in 2011 as a Senior Manager and played a pivotal role in its growth over 13 years. Her dedication earned her the title of co-founder in 2021.

However, Akriti Chopra made headlines in September 2024 when she left Zomato, ending her decade-long association with the company. Her departure sparked speculation, with reports suggesting potential conflicts of interest due to Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit, Albinder’s company, in 2022.

Born and raised in Gurugram, Akriti completed her schooling at Delhi Public School and graduated with a commerce degree from Lady Shri Ram College for Women.

As of now, Akriti’s next career move remains undisclosed. Some reports suggest she might explore new opportunities, while others hint at a possible involvement with Blinkit.
