Kumar, a resident of Samastipur district, was reportedly caught between the buffer of the engine and a coach during a shunting operation involving the Lucknow Junction to Barauni Express on platform number 5. The buffer, designed to absorb shocks between train bogies, failed to prevent a fatal impact.

As news of the incident spread, a video clip of the tragic event went viral on social media, prompting widespread concern and anger. Amar Kumar’s family accused the railway staff of negligence, demanding accountability for his death. They also protested the conduct of a post-mortem examination until responsible railway personnel were held accountable. Vivek Bhushan Sood, Divisional Railway Manager of the Sonpur division, arrived on the scene to address the family’s concerns.
Railways Orders High-Level Enquiry; Congress Demands Accountability
Following the incident, Sharswati Chandra, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Central Railway, expressed deep sorrow and confirmed that a “high-level” enquiry had been ordered to investigate potential lapses in operational guidelines. Chandra acknowledged that operational protocol might have been violated, leading to this avoidable tragedy. The enquiry aims to identify any negligence, and railway authorities have assured strict action against any employee found responsible.
The incident also drew reactions from political figures. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate raised concerns on X, questioning the accountability of railway management and the Ministry of Railways. “Who is responsible for this negligence? Does the railway minister care?” Shrinate posted, adding to the growing call for action and safety reforms in railway operations.
